                   6 Basic Hairstyling Techniques Every
                              Woman Should Know

Between trying to keep up with the latest hair trends, techniques, products and styling tools, it seems like there’s always something new to learn about our hair these days. But, there are some basic hairstyling techniques that every woman should master before we go and get overwhelmed by new tips and tricks! Let’s keep it simple and practice on these six basic hairstyling techniques every woman should know.

1. To blow dry hair straight

Always use a round hairbrush. It will straighten your hair while adding lift and volume to your locks. Look for a 100% boar bristle brush whenever possible as it’s much more gentle on the hair.

2. To keep hair healthy

Don’t shampoo your hair every day! Doing so may actually strip your hair of natural oils that it needs. Try to skip at least a day in between hair washes and use a dry shampoo if necessary.

3. To grow out hair

Don’t skip out on regular trims! It may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your ends in tip top shape will actually help your hair grow faster. Try to schedule a regular trim at least every six to eight weeks.

4. To curl your hair
Make sure your curling iron is a ceramic iron, which conducts heat more evenly than metal. Ceramic irons (this goes for flat irons, too) also cause less frizzing and damage because they emit negative ions which keeps your hair from going all static-y and frizzy.

5. To style your hair in a bun

Try the sock bun trick! It’s an easy way to make a cute ballerina bun that’s ready in a matter of minutes. Simply make a ponytail then use a sock that’s been shaped into a donut and roll your hair into it. Continue rolling your hair into the sock until you have a complete bun!

6. To master the ponytail

Try a few different looks like a side ponytail, low ponytails and adding some waves into your ponytail look. Another neat trick that’s easy to try is to hide your rubber band in your hair. Simply leave a piece of hair loose from your ponytail and then wrap it around the rubber band. It’s a quick and simple way for a much more polished ponytail.

How do you keep your teeth so white?

A bright smile can really make you look young. I had my teeth whitened professionally years ago. But these days, it's my regular habits that help. I go to the dentist every six months, brush with my fave Tom's toothpaste, and rinse after drinking anything colorful, like coffee or red wine. I also carry those tin floss picks everywhere. Another good portable idea: disposable toothbrushes.
.** A little makeup helps, too—a blue-based pink (think berry or fushia) lipstick adds instant sparkle.

         Give Skin The Spa Touch

The latest way to get amazing skin: Power up your face-washing routine with a rotating cleansing brush, the at-home facial appliance derms are buzzing about.

"The micro-massaging bristles help loosen trapped makeup and dirt without additional scrubbing," says Tina Alster, MD, clinical professor of dermatology at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC. "Plus, we’ve seen conditions like acne and rosacea start to clear up when these brushes are used."

Check out Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System ($119; Sephora), which comes with a sensitive-skin brush; additional brush heads are $25 each.
